  1. When our kids were somewhat younger (our youngest is almost 21 now), we found December to be an easy time to schedule a date. I would leave work at lunch time (half day vacation) and my wife and I had a mid week date. We would do our Christmas shopping, have an early dinner (early specials before the crowds arrived), talk about the holidays and our coming year, and just enjoy walking hand in hand in the mall doing some window shopping and dreaming of our own. We had the shopping part pretty well planned so it wasn’t very much of our time together, and mid week in the early afternoon and at dinner time the mall wasn’t too crowded. After 6 or 7 hours, we picked up the kids (when they were younger we had to arrange for their after-school time) and return to the normal activities of the family. It became a time that we looked forward to each year and was a pleasant break in the busy holiday season.
