10 Day Prayer Challenge

Are you at a point where you want to pray for your spouse and your marriage but aren’t sure where to start? Or have you prayed before but fallen out of practice? A prayer challenge can be a great solution to give your spiritual intimacy a boost.  Over the years, we have been in this exact place. We had every intention of praying, but we weren’t doing it. There were times of procrastination, the “I’ll get to it later,” or the blatant “I’m not praying today.” Each one of these excuses kept us from truly experiencing the spiritual intimacy we desired in our lives and for our marriage.

What we have learned is that without a plan, your plans will fail. Making time on your calendar to be on your knees in prayer is necessary to stay focused in this area of your marriage.

For you, this may be early in the morning each day, at a prayer group you attend weekly, or the constant conversations you have throughout your day. Whichever way works for you is what matters.

You being in prayer is what our Heavenly Father is yearning for. Most often, people don’t pray because they don’t believe God will show up and do something big. Prayer works. And your Heavenly Father longs for you to be praying for your marriage.

To get started on a regular time of prayer, pick one verse a day from the prayer challenge below. Set aside a few minutes to pray about your marriage and the one person with whom you have committed to spend your life!

The 10 Day Marriage Prayer Challenge

Take one verse each day during the 10-day prayer challenge as your starting point for much more for your life and your marriage.

1. Walking Boldly with the Lord

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I declare that my strength comes from you. I break the chains of fear as I walk with you no matter where or what is happening in my life. Amen.

2. Celebrating Intimacy

“How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume more than any spice!” Song of Solomon 4:10

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have brought us together for sexual intimacy. I break off any negative thoughts that I have of being intimate with my spouse in every area of our marriage. We will delight in the love that we have for one another. Amen.

3. Being United as a Couple

“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13:23

Prayer: Heavenly Father, when we are in lockstep together nothing can stop us. Our marriage and our family are like a fruitful tree planted by a strong river, which yields fruit season after season, providing for us and those beyond our borders. We declare abundance over our marriage in your mighty name. Amen.

4. Seeking God’s Guidance

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5

Prayer: Lord, through you, all good things come. It is in your mighty name that our marriage and our home are built on your wisdom. Today I ask for a touch from you that gives me clear insights into what is needed. Amen.

5. Renewed Love for Each Other

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Prayer: Lord, I come to you in honor and glory. Cleanse my heart of anything that is not of you. Let me see my spouse as you see them. Through this, I will have a renewed vision of who they are in you. I come to you seeking you first in all areas of my marriage. Amen.

6. Forgiveness and Healing

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15

Prayer: Heavenly Father, everything that I’m holding against my spouse I release to you right now in the powerful name of Jesus. No longer will I live with unforgiveness. Today I believe that you will restore my marriage for your glory as I forgive my spouse for how they have hurt me in the past. Amen.

7. An Unfailing Love

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8  

Prayer: Lord, I believe that you have called me to love my spouse. Strengthen me in patience, kindness, honor, service, and may I release the wrongs that have happened. I exchange my shortcomings with your everlasting love. Our love will never fail because it is your love that sustains us. Amen.

8. Preparing for Attacks Against Our Marriage

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:10-18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we are armored up for our marriage. Storms will come our way, and yet we are ready to fight for our marriage, for our love, and for the vows we said to each other on our wedding day. Let us be prepared for whatever may come our way as we battle together against the issue at hand and not each other. We will persevere in your mighty name we pray. Amen.

9. Finding True Comfort in Hard Times

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

Prayer: Lord, you are the hope of the world. Today my cup overflows with this hope. No matter what may be happening, I press into you for comfort and patience. You give me the peace that I need to be the spouse that you have called me to be. Amen.

10. Thanking God for His Salvation

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14

Prayer: Lord, I will never forget that you rescued me from the dominion of darkness. It is through you that I will show that same forgiveness to my spouse. Amen.
