541: DREAM AGAIN: PART 1 — THE POWER OF A DREAM

“Man alone has the power to transform his thoughts into a physical reality; man, alone, can dream and make his dreams come true.” —Napoleon Hill

Dreams are so important, not just for you as an individual but also for your marriage. You should have dreams for your marriage and your life together.

Without dreams, your days can quickly fall into a routine. This makes every encounter feel like Groundhog Day rather than an adventure.

When you stop dreaming about the future, you may experience a sense of hopelessness, boredom or even a sense of failure. When that happens, you may withdraw from communication with your spouse, opportunities for connection and even sex.

Dreams do so much for our lives. Even if we don’t fully acknowledge their impact, we feel it every day. Dreams bring focus, hope, and excitement. They enable us to work together for a common goal and celebrate when it happens. Dreams make us hungry for more because as a dream is realized, another begins to take shape.

When was the last time that you allowed yourself to dream? Have you sat together and talked about what your dreams look like?

If you’ve felt as if there was no space for you to do that, then it’s time to have that conversation. Give your spouse a safe space to share their dreams.

Saying no immediately or in some other way putting on the breaks on his/her dreams is a form of rejection. You may justify it that you are simply being realistic however your “no” or “there’s no way that we can do that/it won’t work” is a form of rejection.

If you’ve felt like this, or your spouse says that they’ve felt this way, then it’s time for you to take action.

Practice pausing and asking:

  • What does that dream look like?
  • How can I support you in pursuing your dreams, what can I do to be your biggest cheerleader?

These simple but powerful moments of listening to their needs are amazing for building intimacy and a truly deep connection. You can change the connection in your marriage by just asking what their dreams are!

Dare to dream to create a life that you want and can’t wait to live with your partner. You’ll both reap the rewards in more ways than one.
