555: DATING YOUR SPOUSE: PART 1 — WHAT YOU EXPECT

“Chase her. Chase her when she’s already yours. That’s the only way you’ll be assured to never lose her.” —Anonymous

As a society, there is an understanding of what’s supposed to happen when you are in the dating phase of a relationship. Do you remember those days before you got married?

There were dinners, drives around town, exploring the outdoors, or many other adventures with lots of conversations. The dreams, ideas and excitement of getting to know one other filled the time. After each encounter you couldn’t wait until the next time you got to see each other.

Then you get engaged, walked down the aisle and you were married. Next thing you know you have a mortgage, you have kids, jobs (or businesses), volunteer obligations, church and more. Those times of dating one another are long gone.

You both get caught up in the “everything” of life. The conversations about going on a date together dwindle and you miss out on that time for the two of you to connect like you did when you first met.

For many it’s easy to come up with reasons why you can’t go out on a date. You need to stop making those excuses and start dating your spouse again.

Pick a day on your calendar, find something fun to do, call the babysitter and go on a date. It really is as simple as that.

Decide that’s what you are going to do and then do it!

Once you’ve decided to get a date on the calendar, then it’s time to discuss the other aspects, like no phones, what conversations should we have and should avoid.
