724: I WANNA QUIT

“Quitting because you don’t want to be uncomfortable will prevent you from growing.—Amy Morin

wanna quit

I wanna quit. I don’t want to do this anymore.
It’s too hard.
I don’t think we can fix this.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. What happened to us?

When helplessness and hopelessness collide, it can lead couples to making these statements.

Sometimes, it’s a feeling of helplessness because of circumstances.

In others, it’s hopelessness at not knowing what actions to take.

It’s so important to start with the circumstances that brought you to this point. You can start by asking, “What are the circumstances that brought us to this point?”

Reflecting on what got you here can often be part of the answer to how to change things.

You may find that looking at the roles that both of you have had in creating these circumstances provides you the opportunity to take action in intentional ways.

This will look different for all couples, and yet it may include that you need coaching or counseling. Sometimes, starting a sex challenge or using the 6 Pillars of Intimacy® as your guide may be a solution.

What’s important is you need to figure out which makes sense for YOUR situation. From there, you can find where you need to be intentional and take action.

See, the feelings won’t change until the actions do.

Ultimately, know that those “I wanna quit” moments are really a cry for things to be different. In that place of pain comes the realization that you have to change things if you want the pain to go away.

Don’t forget: quitting because you don’t want to be uncomfortable will prevent you from growing.
