743: WHAT’S UP WITH THE HORMONES

“Our bodies are finely tuned machines and if our hormone mixtures aren’t “just right” everything goes into disrepair.—Suzanne Somers

Sometimes it can seem like aging is a secret society.

There are all these buzzwords that show up somewhere in your 40s. People mention things like menopause, hormone levels, and low T. However, few people are really talking about hormonal changes.

As you age, you might experience things like weight gain, low energy, brain fog, night sweats, and more.

But this isn’t something you just have to deal with.

Extraordinary couples take action when things aren’t quite right.

Understandably, aging and experiencing hormone changes can be unsettling.

If you have concerns about your hormones, you’re not alone. In fact, 85% of the ONE Family said they are concerned about their hormones or changes in their hormones.

Keep in mind that everyone has their own journey when it comes to aging, hormones, and medical interventions. What you choose to do is up to you.

Since many members of the ONE Family are on a similar journey of learning about hormones and strengthening their 6 Pillars of Intimacy®, it’s crucial to have these conversations.

First, it’s important to understand the role of hormones. Take a look at this definition

“Hormones are the body’s chemical messengers, sending signals into the bloodstream and tissues. Hormones work slowly, over time, and affect many different processes, including growth and development, metabolism—how your body gets energy from the foods you eat—sexual function, reproduction, and mood.”

Did you catch those things that hormones affect? Metabolism, energy, sexual function, mood…

These four things can deeply affect your marriage if they aren’t operating at their full potential.

Hormone changes can manifest in many ways with symptoms that affect both your health and marriage.

For example, you might experience low libido or notice less natural lubrication. You may feel more frustrated for no reason.

For some people, hormone changes produce menopause-like symptoms or headaches. It can also cause emotional upheaval, low energy levels, and more.

These are all legitimate concerns.

Thankfully, there are ways you can investigate what’s going on in your body and take action.

One of the most important steps is to find a medical professional who will really talk to you.

Whether you want to get your hormone levels tested, incorporate supplements, or try hormone-related therapies, you deserve to feel heard.

It’s frustrating not to feel supported by your physician. Make sure your medical professional is someone who will listen to your concerns and thoroughly explain your results and options.

Another thing to look for in a physician is someone who deals with the lowest effective dosing when it comes to hormones. They should regularly re-evaluate your blood work and not just leave you to figure things out on your own.

You’ll also want someone who can educate you on hormones, hormone therapy, and different options.

Hormones can sound complicated: testosterone, progesterone, sex hormone bind globulin, cortisol, estradiol, and so on. However, these aren’t meaningless words.

Hormones control so much of what happens in our bodies. Additionally, they can affect our emotional, physical, and sexual intimacy with our spouse.

No matter your age, it’s important—and possible—for these hormones to be at optimal levels.

Talk with your spouse about the changes you’re noticing, and speak with a medical professional about the steps you can take.

Gathering information doesn’t commit you to anything, but the information can help you make decisions for your health and well-being.

If hormone changes are weakening your emotional, physical, and sexual intimacies, don’t just accept it. Find a wellness clinic or physician, and figure out how you can take action today.
