847: Make Time For One Another

There’s only one thing more precious than our time and that’s who we spend it on.” —Leo Christopher

making time

If you want an extraordinary marriage, you have to make time for one another. It’s as simple as that. And yet, couples all over the world let work, kids, and distractions take priority over their spouse and then wonder why they feel so disconnected.

It’s much easier to create an extraordinary marriage when everything in life is calm and peaceful. But what are you going to do when life gets busy and challenging?

Now’s the time to make a plan and assess your marriage tools.

Do you know how you will stay close and connected (in other words, intimate) when it’s hard? Unfortunately, most couples don’t.

So when the busyness comes, their 6 Pillars of Intimacy® develop cracks.

The things coming between husband and wife aren’t intrinsically bad. For example, your schedule might be full of work, kids’ activities, volunteering, and doing household chores. These are aspects of a vibrant life.

However, when they start taking priority over your spouse, it’s time to reflect and implement a few changes.

In fact, here are some other things that couples in the ONE Family say keeps them from making time for one another:

  • Tiredness
  • Stress
  • Laziness
  • Lack of prioritization
  • Rejection

If you want your marriage to be one where you feel close and connected, you have to make time for one another and prioritize the marriage. It all comes down to a choice.

This week, you might need to sit down and write out your priorities and see where your marriage falls.

In the early days of your relationship, you likely chose to spend a lot of time together. But you don’t have to fully replicate your dating experience in order to feel more connected.

It can start with even just a five-minute conversation with undivided attention

Where can you start? For some couples, spending intentional time together daily or weekly makes a difference in their connection. But there’s no single answer that is right for everyone.

You just have to start somewhere to see what works and what doesn’t.

Will you choose to make time so your spouse feels cherished, valued, and heard?

Maybe you’ll…

These are just a sample of the ideas that you could add to your calendar.

Remember, it’s not enough to have the time on the calendar. It’s the combination of time and action that makes things extraordinary.
