914: Summer Connection Doesn’t Just Happen

“Connection is the energy that is created between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued.” —Brene Brown

summer connection

Summer looks like the perfect setup for marriage… with longer days, a slower pace, vacations, and more time together.

But more time doesn’t automatically mean more connection.

You can sit by the pool together and still feel miles apart. You can take a family trip, watch the sunset, or eat ice cream, and still never have the conversation you’ve actually been needing to have. You can spend an entire summer in the same house and still miss each other emotionally.

Connection still requires intentionality. Even in June, July, and August.

So how you can make summer work FOR your marriage instead of letting another season pass you by without really connecting?

We asked the ONE Family what typically happens to the connection in their marriage over the summer, and the answers were really eye-opening:

  • 50% said there is more connection.
  • 16% said there is less connection.
  • 34% said it stays the same.

Then we asked what you want for your marriage this summer.

The answers might not surprise you:

  • More sex
  • More connection
  • Date nights
  • Fun and laughter
  • Time away from the kids
  • Trying new things sexually

Ultimately, couples don’t just want a busy summer or even a fun summer. They want to be seen, wanted, noticed, and chosen.

So that’s exactly what we’re digging into in this episode.

Summer will come and go either way. The only question is what your marriage looks like when it’s over.
