915: The Joy of Foreplay

“Anticipation is part of the pleasure.” —Anonymous

joy of foreplay

You know it matters… but foreplay is one of those things that can get easily lost over time.

That anticipation was a key component in the early days of your relationship. There was flirting, secret glances, long kisses, and delicious build-up.

But then real life happens and foreplay becomes an afterthought.

And yet, when we asked the ONE Family if foreplay makes a difference in your sexual intimacy, 87% said absolutely.

That is because foreplay is not just the warm-up before sex. It is part of sexual intimacy, which includes romance, initiation, foreplay, and intercourse. It is an important part of feeling close and connected.

And the vast majority of couples agree that foreplay matters. But then we asked, “Do you and your spouse talk about what makes foreplay enjoyable?” Only 48% said yes… 52% said no.

That is where the disconnect shows up. When foreplay becomes rushed, skipped, or one-sided, it creates frustration instead of connection. And you start missing out on the joy and playfulness of being together: the hugs from behind, sneaky kisses, and butt grabs.

These are all little reminders of your love, attention, and desire for one another.

If foreplay has become an afterthought, try these three things to revive it:

Talk about foreplay outside the bedroom. Ask what helps your spouse feel wanted, what kind of touch helps them relax, and what they wish happened more often.

Slow down. Foreplay is not a race to intercourse. Kiss longer, touch without rushing, and let desire build.

Make it mutual. Foreplay becomes joyful when both spouses are engaged, participating, and showing desire.
