What is Happening With My Body?

As I reached my mid-40s, I started noticing changes that I was not prepared for.

There was the unexplained weight gain, intense fatigue, and brain fog. I experienced changes in my energy levels, my metabolism, and even my period. It felt like my body had swept the rug out from under me as I grappled with so many changes at once.

Here’s the thing: absolutely no one told me what to expect with perimenopause

Nobody really talks about the hormone shifts that happen as you age. And as a result, no one shares solutions to make this season of life less miserable!

So it’s no surprise that when I started going through all these changes, I felt alone, confused, and frustrated. I just kept thinking to myself, “What is happening to me?!”

But I wasn’t the only one affected by the changes happening in my body.

My relationship with Tony began to change, too.

Imagine this…

I’m tossing and turning all night with awful night sweats. I can’t get comfortable, let alone get any good rest. Tony rolls over and goes back to sleep. In the morning, he asks me what all the commotion was about.

Cue the anger…

Needless to say, it’s hard to build emotional intimacy when you’re cranky and frustrated by perimenopause symptoms that keep you up all night.

Of course, hormonal changes also impact your sex life

For me, my libido was all over the place. My body didn’t naturally lubricate the way it used to, and sometimes the vaginal dryness made sex nearly impossible.

Headaches and hot flashes left me drained and irritated. I had no energy left for dates or fun activities.

On top of everything else, I didn’t want to be going through perimenopause. (Trust me, I spent plenty of time in denial about what was happening.)

BUT—and this is a big but—I knew I couldn’t stay in that place.

Not if I wanted to have an extraordinary marriage.

Not if I wanted to be a good mom to my children while they were navigating their own challenges in the teens.

And certainly not if I wanted to feel like myself again.

I wasn’t going to settle for a miserable menopause experience.

That’s when I started talking with other women and having open, honest, no-holds-barred conversations.

I dove into research, met with hormone therapists, and looked for resources.

Ladies, society has done you a massive disservice. People act like aging and menopause are things that shouldn’t be talked about. But they’re wrong.

You absolutely deserve to know what’s going on with your body.
